Red Deer Reality Rant #34 - Spirit of Goodwill
Hello and happy Monday, fellow Red Deerians! It’s becoming quite the holiday season with all of the shops in the festive spirit, and now city hall park is all lit up with even more Christmas lights this year than last. Red Deer is looking pretty even with all of the muck on the roads and people are preparing for December in good spirits it seems. For today’s Rant I will continue with this goodwill and speak to the great generosity a lot of people seem to have this year.
There are many great charities in the Red Deer area, I spoke about a few in a previous post, specifically in Red Deer Reality Rant #27 where I mentioned some excellent ways to help out locally. Today I would like to mention a very deserving charity that works tirelessly to help people who are struggling both individuals and low income families. I’m speaking about the Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army does not discriminate and is there to help anyone and everyone who needs it. Providing food hampers, offering employment, helping kids with school lunches and supplies, toy drives and clothing for anyone who needs it. I myself have been a recipient of Salvation Army’s generosity and care and I respect the work that they do. With one of the lowest paid CEOs of any charitable organization they make sure that donations go to the best possible use.
While there does seem to be a lot of disparity here in Red Deer between people who have much and people who have very little, I am impressed by the willingness of locals to help out and the kindness and goodwill that is apparent here. The food bank donation bins are receiving lots it seems at all of the grocery stores that I frequent and Bower Mall has a toy donation bin receiving great things to help local kids have a quality Christmas.
If you yourself have a little extra this year please do consider helping your fellow Red Deerian, there are a lot of ways to help, and continue to spread the goodwill. As you know, one good turn deserves another. That’s all for today, enjoy your week Red Deer, and I will be back next week!
