P-Vock's Music Box: The Summer Sun
Hello and welcome back to P-Vock's Music Box. It is still so damn hot outside. I wake up sweaty. I go to bed sweaty. Hell, I get out of the shower, and by the time I dry off, I have worse swamp ass than Shrek. I simply can't beat this obnoxious heat. So I give up, I'm going to do something I've never done before and be positive about the summer. Luckily for me, a bit of a Super Nintendo classic can help with that.
Secret of Mana is one of those pieces of media in which everyone who has experienced it sings its praises to no end. While I'm not sure I'd put up with the SNES classic RPGs like EarthBound and Chrono Trigger (the GOAT), or even classify it as my favourite in its own series, I will give it a ton of praise. Being an RPG in the 90s that didn't use a tactical strategy or turn-based gameplay system was a very ambitious move, and I think it paid off. I'd honestly say this game may have been a catalyst that would lead to us eventually getting Kingdom Hearts, so I love this game!
Oh right, I am here to talk about the music. Well, I have the perfect summer beat for you folks.
It has the word 'summer' in the title, so you know it fits. I don't know if I'd say this track makes me feel the same summer vibes as something like Crash Bandicoot or Super Mario Sunshine, but I don't care because this shit slaps. I don't think there's been a piece of music I've ever heard that I began tapping my foot and bopping my head along with as quickly as I did with this track. It gives me the vibe of walking through a busting fair or street market and checking out the various vendors trying to rip me off without a care in the world, as we used to do in the distant past before 2020. Ah, the good old days.
Okay, so this game doesn't really have another good summer-ish theme, but it does have another jamming field theme.
You know, I gotta say. This one has the word 'thick' in it, and I think that's a pretty fitting description of this music. This theme feels thick and dense as if you're walking through the brush of an immensely populated forest that is just filled to bursting with plant and animal life.
What's that? That's exactly the scenario for this theme, you say?
Oh.
Well, yeah, then this theme is very fitting indeed!
Alright, it's too hot out and I wanna go be a lazy piece of shit, so I'mma wrap this up. Secret of Mana is a game with an absolutely iconic OST. Even if I don't jive with the game as a whole as much as other people do, I can't get enough of this damn music. The Colour of the Summer Sky just puts me in a bouncy mood and I get a little smirk whenever I hear it. I hope giving it a listen created a similar feeling for you in this scorching heatwave that my Canuck ass can barely handle.
Plus, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is finally out, so I'm going to go play that until my eyeballs start to bleed. Thanks, as always, for checking out my nonsense and I'll catch you back here next time with another suggestion from my Music Box. Stay Brutal!
PS. I love this track too much to not give you a cover of it. Enjoy!
