P-Vock's Music Box: Big and Small
Hello and welcome to P-Vock's Music Box. I do cover a lot of relatively well-known titles in this column, but I also very much enjoy more obscure or forgotten games, and PlayStation is full of them. Granted, they're largely full of them because they refuse to give them a fair chance and then abandon them after they don't immediately succeed, but that's beside the point.
Buried under the God of Wars, Uncharteds, and Ratchets sits many a beloved IP. One such title is easily one of the most charming and fun platformers ever created.
So, let's sack up and take a look at a personal favourite series of mine.
No piece of music embodies the phrase "no thoughts, head empty" better than this jam. Little Big Planet is just pure fun. The entire series is laid back, carefree, and aggressively chill. I think this music does a phenomenal job of nailing those vibes. With its simple and catchy melody, dulcet tones, and mellow tempo, I think this is a perfect track to vibe to.
If you smoke weed, I feel like this tune would be immaculate to listen to as you light up. Not sure if that's a positive or not, but I figured it was worth mentioning.
Now how about some of that good ole tonal whiplash?
While remaining on-brand with some outlandishly funky sounds and a slightly whimsical melody, we have a track that delivers some chaotic fun that really lets it stand out amongst the rather mellow and calm soundtrack. It's bizarre, it's varied, and it's instantly memorable. Those disembodied voices have not left my head in well over the decade-long period since I first got a PS3 and immediately picked up this game.
I wonder if this track would be better or worse to smoke weed alongside...
Either way, how about I give you my favourite now?
Top ten video game track right here for me. Maybe it's the funky synthetic drum line. Maybe it's the simple vibe of the melodies giving a cozy vibe that still manage to hint at a wonderful adventure. Maybe it's the nostalgia of being a teenager and playing this into the wee hours of the night on my weekend in high school and missing that time before I knew what bills were.
Whatever the reason, this is a piece of music that sets and regulates my mood. Something that always makes me feel centered and composed. Something that I just do not tire of.
That is why is this absolutely one of my all-time favourite tracks.
It wasn't as bombastic and wild as last week's selection, but I hope these mellow vibes helped calm you and ease you into what should be a nice weekend for you all.
I love this music and the series from which it comes more than almost anyone and I sincerely hope we get another entry into the Little Big Planet franchise sooner rather than later.
Thank you, as always, for checking out my content, and I hope to catch you back here next time with another suggestion from my Music Box.
Stay Brutal!
