P-Vock's Music Box: 2021's Best

Hello and welcome back to P-Vock's Music Box and happy new year! I don't know about you, but I'm about ready to say goodbye to 2021. You don't need me to recap 2021 for you. so instead, let me talk about my favourite new release of the year.

One of my first posts for this horribly written series was from The World Ends With You, one of my all-time favourite games, as a sequel was about to release that had me incredibly excited. Lo and behold, it was released in late July and was basically the only thing I thought about for the rest of the summer. Neo: The World Ends With You absolutely delivered for me in every aspect. Excellent combat, a great story, wonderful characters, and enough fanservice for someone obsessed with the predecessor to ensure my shorts have yet to become fully dry.

One thing that I really love about the game is, of course, the music. So, let me start you off with an absolute banger that plays as your merry band of idiots romp around Shibuya.

Oh yeah, that's the good stuff. This is the type of music with such an infectious Beat that I am unable to listen without bobbing my head or tapping my foot. This feels like the perfect music to accompany you and your friends traipsing around a crowded place and getting up to who knows what, the exact thing we shouldn't be doing right now because life is unfair. But enough of the friendly shit, how about I hit you with a massive mood?

Hell yeah, this is it. This is my favourite new track from this wonderful OST. If you couldn't surmise, this is a battle theme. Hoo baby does it ever feel like a fantastic theme to go and battle hordes of urban fantasy monsters. Thank to Spotify having a pretty damn accurate lyrics function, you can even enjoy the lyrics of that certified banger. If you're someone who often uses self-bashing humour to cope with modern existence (or as I call it, anyone born after the year 1980), the lyrics absolutely deliver a large mood. As the song progresses, the lyrics go from telling the tale of someone unable to cope with modern pressures into someone confident with who they are that is ready to take on the world. What begins as "Every night I lie awake, Feeling like I'm just a mistake" soon becomes "I've found some clarity, My life's too precious to live shackled by insecurity."

That's what we in the business call an uplifting message and I think that's the perfect message to deliver as we bring on a new year.

Regardless of where you are in your life, 2021 likely sucked to some degree for you. Let me be one of the first to wish you a happy new year and all the best in 2022. We'll get out of all this crap we're dealing with someday, and all we can all do right now is keep going. Thank you for tuning in this year, and I'll see you right back here next year (hehe) with another suggestion from Music Box. Stay Brutal. Oh, and if you ever need to feel joy, just go cough on a rich person.

PS. I'm sure you don't remember when I deliver the first game's soundtrack, so you likely don't remember the track Calling. Well, Neo gave us a wonderful remix of it, so have a listen if you're so inclined.
