Last night I was cruising Spotify and Facebook at the same time, hanging out on the interwebs. I came across this YouTube video (link via FB) of this cat named Billy Strings. He was playing a song in a dungy basement in 2012, called "Dust in a Baggie." Of course, I read the lyrics as the song played and was pleasantly impressed. The song is definite bluegrass, true to its roots, and it is about the outdated and imbecilic views towards marijuana possession in the Southeastern US. While I concede that the song could easily have been written 50 years ago, with legalization only happening recently here in Canada, it is still relatable. But I digress.
The point I am trying to make is that the mixtape was born from this particular song, as it got me thinking of other, similar in tone or genre, songs. While it may not be a coincidence that this is white man's music, I do feel there is some soul in this playlist. Soul is soul.
I hope you enjoy this mixtape, and if you feel so inclined, please drop a comment or like on the post. Those interested in my contact deets will find them below.
