10 Punks - 10 Questions - Blake Basaraba

Welcome to the BRD Original Series - 10 Punks - 10 Questions!

Things have been sleepy in Brutal Land lately but don't even consider fretting because those days are over. We are pleased to present a brand new series that will hopefully bring a small amount of joy to your lives for at least the 10 days and beyond. Resident drunk/brute, Josh Hauta, has harassed 10 of his pals in the music scene with 10 questions and this is the glorious result. So hop into your coziest of PJ pants, grab a Radler, and prepare to be entertained!

Back to Edmonton we go! It's Bodacious Blake Basaraba in the flesh! You may recognize him from such fledgling bands as Broken Yolks, Balderdash, and Grizzly Trail! Just kidding - they're barely fledgling at all. Like just the tiniest bit fledgling at best. What were we talking about? Oh yeah - Blake! Good dude on the guitar and bass and microphone. But don't take my word for it!

BRUTAL REALITY DIGEST: Identify yourself, your band, weapon of choice.

BLAKE BASARABA: Blake Basaraba, Balderdash, 9 iron

BRD: What is your favourite part of the city/town you live in?

BB: The local music scene for any genre.

BRD: What is the worst part about the city/town you live in?

BB: Living in the city. I'm more of an acreage folk.

BRD: What is your favourite line from the Star Wars saga?

BB: "Luke, I am your father." Very powerful moment between the Luke and Darth Vadar. (Editor's note - fucken spoiler alert!!!)

BRD: What is the coolest show your band has played?

BB: There wasn't lots of people or anything but we did a weekend in Hinton and Jasper with our buds Western Frontline. Check them out if you haven't already!

BRD: What is the shittiest or most hilarious show your band has played?

BB: Back when we were The Mighty Steeds, we played at a bar called Wunderbar and our set got shut down and a brawl broke out. That was the end of that set.

BRD: Who do you think is the most underrated band out there?

BB: I'm a big classic rock guy so I'd say Thin Lizzy while Phil Lynott was still alive. Been rocking out to them a lot in the last bit.

BRD: What's your "safety net" stage banter?

BB: My banter generally sucks but I have moments from time to time. No "go to" banter generally. Our guitarist used to tell a joke all the time. Wish I could remember the joke.

BRD: If you could be any Pokemon, which one would you fuck? I mean be.

BB: Probably that blast turtle guy. He always seemed cool.

BRD: If your band could tour with any living or dead band in history, who would it be?

BB: Great question. We all listen to different styles of music but for me, I'd say probably a band from Woodstock 69'. They know how to do it the right way!

Did you eat those two wings man?
